Artist Report: James Casebere
I decided to do a report on James Casebere because I feel that his artwork is amazing. Im the type of person that likes things to look like what its suppose to look like and the simplicity of it. James Casebere shows that throughout his work. He has these digital artworks that are flat mixed in with the actual photograph that makes the objects pop. It is totally my type of work because I like things to look a certain way and his way expresses how I do art perfectly. Almost all of his works are first produced by photographs then manipulated digitally to make things more interesting. For example, in one of his artworks “Tripoli”, 2007, it looks almost like a diorama made from boards. I love how he uses simplicity of colors and using monochromatic colors just seems to work throughout his art pieces. They all have this serene like feeling towards the pieces because I feel like its very mysterious. I think this because since his works are mostly all simple, it creates this mood of surreal like feeling. He has many artworks with water involved and if you look at the water carefully, you can tell that they were digitally manipulated and it creates that feeling of simplicity. I guess in a way, it kind of looks like a doll house because this look perfect. I feel like all the components in an artwork belong there and it looks “right”. I think his works are very significant especially towards me because, I feel uncomfortable making artworks that have these chaotic and strong statements. I can really relate to him because I feel that simplicity speaks for itself and you could see that by looking at his artworks.
